The accurate characterisation of hydrated crystal forms is of foremost importance for the chemical industry. Only when the stability and behaviour of the hydrate are known and understood, is it safe to manufacture. The following sections give an outline of what knowledge can be gathered from the multitude of solid-state analytical techniques. However, in order to get a wholistic view of the hydrate or in fact any crystal form, a number of methods have to be applied.
